JSS . Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore is well known for promoting the cause of education in the Southern part of Karnataka for over four decades. It is the central body that runs over 250 educational institutions & was established in the year 1954 by the foresight and vision of his Holiness Jagadguru Late Sri Sri Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of Suttur Mutt. Institutions from the crèche level to Research Institutions, training doctoral scholars are managed by Mahavidyapeetha & Several thousands of students; teachers and employees derive benefit from these institutions. The JSS college Of Physiotherapy was established in the year 1999 by the present pontiff, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, who is also the President of the J.S.S. Mahavidyapeetha since Dec., 1986. The present Pontiff's illustrious predecessors have been the driving force in formulating the policies and programmes, in terms of broadening the vision of the J.S.S. Mahavidyapeetha. This has been endorsed by many educationists as more than a university and true to their beliefs JSS has been declared as a Deemed University under the UGC in 2007.

The JSS College of Physiotherapy was established in 1999 and is approved by the Govt. of Karnataka. It is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Bangalore and Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP).
Rehabilitation is the need of the hour and Physiotherapy plays a crucial role. As Physiotherapists we must estimate and gauge the functional capabilities and potentials of our patients, many of whom suffer injuries that cannot be corrected. During these times of distress Physiotherapists do play a major role as they have to reach out and rehabilitate clients. Therapists have a major role to play to improve the health of our nation, by skills and techniques affected by the various members of the rehabilitation team.

The college is situated at the JSS hospital campus, Ramanuja road, Mysore. The college is about 1 km. from the centre of the city. Mysore is synonymous with lush green gardens, salubrious weather, beautiful landscapes, palatial buildings and Maharajas who ruled the region earlier. It is also known for the best educational institutions. The Mysore University is one of the oldest universities in the country. Mysore is about 140 Kms. from Bangalore city, the capital of Karnataka and is well connected by road, rail and air.

This J.S.S. College of Physiotherapy is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science Bangalore and Indian Association of Physiotherapists [IAP]. It offers 2 Yrs Masters (M.P.T) & 4 ½ Yrs Bachelors' programme (B.P.T) in Physiotherapy.
MASTERS IN PHYSIOTHERAPY (MPT) 2 YEARS
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: A candidate should have passed B.P.T. from RGUHS, Bangalore or equivalent as recognized by RGUHS.
BACHELORS IN PHYSIOTHERAPY (BPT) 4 ½ YEARS
The course is of 4½ years duration, follows annual examination system and includes 6 months internship.
Physiotherapy is not only responsible for physical fitness but also accelerates psychosocial rehabilitation and strengthens one's determination to over come the disabling condition.
The concept of faster fitness and physical rehabilitation is universally accepted and practiced worldwide. Physiotherapy is a modern choice to solve physical problems, impairment and disabling conditions. It prevents deformity and helps to keep the ‘body' and ‘mind' fit.
The faculty accepts the fact that professional education of physiotherapy at the University level for Bachelor Degree In Physiotherapy will prepare a better qualified physiotherapist and assume the responsibilities of providing total patient care at various levels in different settings.
